I approach my work as being about personal discovery and the opportunity for development using animals as my center point. I embrace intuition, improvisation and spontaneity; Hence, the paintings are long in process with countless repainting and revisions. I continue to work on them applying layers of paint and taking off layers of paint until there is cohesion and balance.

I want the viewer to reevaluate what we know about animals and our relationship to them thru manipulation of the paint. I look for a balance of focus, a flow rich in content, color, and imagery that can take on a duality that is animated, powerful, yet to some threatening.

The new bird, mice, and cat paintings are a complex almost idyllic stream of consciousness as well as being universal shared creatures. I use collage: old letters, photos, children's art, paint as well as found objects such as metal, wire, tin cans etc. This lends an archeological feel of the past and at the same time the animals inhabit a world of increasing urbanization.
